What Part of Austin Should You Live In?

Are you moving to Austin TX and don’t know where the heck you are going to live?  There are so many unique neighborhoods in Austin it can be hard to decide which one is right for you…

In this article I’m going to share with you my favorite parts of the Austin Area based on activities and amenities so you can truly enjoy living your new life in your new City.

I moved to Austin nine years ago and one of the things I struggled with was what area I wanted to live in, there were so many choices!   I quickly figured out that each area has its own unique benefits.   As a Realtor, anytime I’m talking with someone moving to Austin I like to find out what types of activities they enjoy in order to match them up with a great neighborhood.    Not knowing YOUR specific interests I’m going to give you a sample of my Top 3 faves.  Now guys, there are SO many amazing areas so be sure to check out the Neighborhood guides on my site for more!

Lets begin with beautiful Downtown Austin. Downtown is the heart & soul of Austin, and yes Austin has a Soul, its what makes this place so special. Downtown is where everything happens, so if you want to be close to all the action, this is the spot.   There is the hike and bike trail around the lake, kayaking or paddleboarding on the water, iconic live music venues like Moody Theater where they film ACL Live, the Continental Club, Saxon Pub and the Broken Spoke and of course Zilker Park for lazy weekends with friends and dogs.  The majority of your choices for a place to live Downtown will be condos with some older homes in the Travis Heights and South Congress neighborhood.

The next area I want to talk about is North of Downtown and its the area that includes NorthWest Hills and also the neighborhoods surrounding The Domain shopping and  entertainment district.  This is a very desirable area due to the proximity of employers such as Facebook, Amazon and VRBO.  It attracts tech workers for Apple, Samsung, Microsoft and IBM just to name a few.

If a laid back lifestyle is more your vibe then head West to the Lake Travis area in the hills.   One of my favorite communities is the master planned neighborhood of Steiner Ranch.  With its access to Lake Travis, miles of hiking and biking trails, neighborhood schools and 3 recreations centers with tennis courts, basketball courts and swimming pools its no wonder so many people fall in love with living here.  This is the place to be if you want to buy a boat and be on the water every weekend.    Shopping and restaurants are nearby along with the private University of Texas Golf Club.

Honorable mention goes to the suburbs of CedarPark, Round Rock, Quirky East Austin and Weird South Austin.

So those are 3 of my favorite Austin Areas.   Let me know in the comments what you found most helpful.  Also if you want to buy a home and are confused about just how long it will take you’ll want to watch my video “How Long Will it Take to Buy a Home in Austin” to give you some guidance.  Just click on the “About” tab and then “Videos”.
