- Does the thought of another weekend stuck in the house trying to entertain the kiddos make you want to pull your hair out? In this video I’m going to share with you my top 3 things to do with kids in Austin and hopefully you’ll discover some new favorites to keep them happy.
Be sure to read to the end for my #1 thing to do with kiddos, its totally free!
Lets begin with my #3 thing to do with your kids in Austin-Visit The Thinkery which is a hands on childrens museum in the Mueller area. It’s open daily and features things like water activity stations, a light lab and an amazing outdoor playground. Make a day of it after your visit by walking over to the lake across the street and visiting the ducks. This is a paid activity so you’ll want to check out the most current information at their website.
Ok, my 2nd favorite thing to do with kids in Austin is to go play miniature golf at the iconic Peter Pan Mini Golf course just South of DT. They are open every day of the week and have been delighting Austin families since 1948. Pets are also allowed as long as they are on a leash so you can bring the entire family!
Now moving on to my #1 thing to do with the kiddos, this one you may not be aware of and it’s totally free! Spend a day at Mayfield Park & Nature Preserve. It’s listed in the national register of historic places and is located in Central Austin. This estate was given to the City in 1971 and became a park. It has a historic cottage along with 2 acres of gardens and a 21 acre nature area with walking trails and wildlife. The surprising thing you will find at Mayfield Park is the peacocks! Brilliant peacocks can be found walking the cottage grounds and in the surrounding trees. I’ve also included the link below for you-it’s open daily and one of my favorite places.
I hope I gave you some new ideas for keeping your kids busy in Austin-let me know in the comments what some of your favorites are.
